A Kittens Tale Block Two (entry 2)
Apr-2010
Hi Ladies, how’s everyone doing on this project – any questions? How are you liking the applique techniques, which one is your favourite? Why? I’m mailing out block 2 today!!
For Block two I’m going to show you a different way to press your seams
prepare your silks with the fuse on the back, start cutting your fabrics according to the instructions
trace your design onto the stitchery piece, be careful with placement remember where your seam allowance will be, remember where the applique areas will be, trace carefully
cut all of your fabrics, pick your favourite method of applique either one of the 3 I’ve shown you or your favourite and work on getting the applique areas completed.
I chose two different methods, needle turn for the basket, quilt and the cats body, I did raw edge for the tale, legs and the patch on her neck.
I chose the charcoal colour initially for the quilt but it became to dark to see the stitch drawing through so I’ve changed the colour for you to work with something easier.
after you’ve completed the applique, square up this background area by taking off a little on each side until you have the right size. Try not to take too much off one side at one time as you may off set the center of your piece, take your time..
work on your pinwheels, making sure to square them up as you go
lay it all out, happy with it, now start sewing the pinwheel rows together across the top and down the one side including piece your rail fence sections.
here’s another option as some of you may already do, press your seams open, this relieves the bulk that is caused by pressing your seams to one side…pressing them to the middle minimizes bulk and when you pin accurately all of your seams match up perfectly…give it a try..
sew across the top then add the side row…
I’m almost finished the stitiching and will post it shortly 🙂
here’s the final block, stitching completed
Come on over to my Vals Quilting Blog and leave me a comment to get your name into a great draw celebrating my 100th blog posting 🙂

Oh you cheater! I have been struggling with that satin stitch and just can't get it looking right. It's driving me crazy. I should have come here first! Lesson learned. I think I might make little daisies instead of hearts on the quilt. I still need to get the colors I need from you. Sigh.
