Butterfly Garden Month 1
Feb-2012
Getting organized, here’s a great video on a few stitches we will be using as well as some knots! And getting our flosses organized
If I found some of the fabrics too bright or too much pattern I simply flipped them over and used the other side!
I didn’t separate the flower petals or the wings on the butterfly into separate pieces as I felt that there was just too many pieces to work with, I just cute the fusible interfacing really close to the middle of both of these and left the area connect just the slightest bit. This helps keep it more accurate when placing.
Since I left a little bit of the paper fusible web on the shapes when I cut around them in the silk the edges came out superbly crisp.
Where the flower petals meet the center circle covers up this connected area, hiding it perfectly.
You will stitch over this connecting area on the butterfly, giving him antlers and a body so it the silk part will be hidden.
Score the paper with your needle to give you leverage when peeling it off. The silk will be quite clingy like static cling once you remove the paper – just remember what side has the glue on it 🙂
Rotate your flowers to how you want them to look
Pick your favourite thread colour…I picked a dark regal purple
I did back my entire block in fusible interfacing before I did the applique by machine – note you can do this by hand if you like – and before I did the embroidery.
here’s my scrap test piece for the applique done by machine – I always want to make sure I like the tightness of the stitch and the length and width before I put it on my final piece.
here’s what my applique turns out like – do you like?
Welcome to the club for 2013!
For those of you who have kits, I haven’t included the fusible web as it doesn’t fold up very nicely for these kits and it’s more difficult to work with. The Fusible web for the back on the blocks is to help hide the threads I’ve included this as shown in my picture.
If you have ANY questions while you are working on your blogs, please email me as I’m here to help in all sorts of ways!
I hope you enjoy this block of the month club – and thanks so much for joining!
