Life is Beautiful – month three
Mar-2011
**Note: Hi ladies, it seems I’ve may have put two of the same patterns into one of your kits, would you mind checking and letting me know when you have a chance as one lady has two of the same so one of you must have two of the same also** Thanks and sorry for this inconvenience.
Hi Ladies, well this month is full of completing two rows – and boy oh boy do they look FAB-O..
A couple of things before we get started:
- I’ve changed the block size to 9″ I was feeling like the 10″ size was too much waste
- this month, we are doing 4 blocks instead of 5
2 stichery blocks, white – enclosed in your kit and cappa – from your own stash
I’m incorporating silks into the backgrounds also, this will help provide some quiet space when looking at the quilt – be sure to be aware of the grain of the silk and the direction it’s headed…have fun with it!
do your quilting, then add your 1″ sashing strip to the front and the 1.5″ sashing strip to the back on the right side of the blocks once you have them laid out how you like them…see my pics below.
do your hand stitching from the back…it just so happened when I was happy with the placement on the front I have 2 blocks side by side on the back…ahhhh such is life 🙂
row one – complete!!
measure the width of your row, cut your sashing strips same as you would for the side ones 1″ top and 1.5″ back – connect on the diagonal, find your center – pin in place – this will help keep your rows square and straight.
row two – complete!!
when you connect the first row to the second row peak to make sure your sashing strips that go sideways and they are lined up – you’ll be disappointed here because once you flip the row over you’ll notice it!! Take your time here ladies.. it’s worth it!
Ta-Da!!
Here’s where I think, I’ve decided to stray from the overall design. I’ve pinned all of the center circles (template C) onto these cross areas and…well I’m not sure I like them?? What do you all think? Keep them or leave them and why? I’m thinking I like the clean look of the squares, sashing and showing off the quilting around the circles…I find that they almost take away from my quilting and embroidery…thoughts?
Here’s the back – I LOVE it!!
AND we now have buttons: Our Block of the Month Club Button to add to your blogs,
I’d be honoured really 🙂
I Heart BOM Code for your Blog:
Our General Cute Button for Pastimes Online.
Pastimes Quilters Code for your Blog:
Note about Floss: You received 3 skeins of floss in your first kit each additional floss you may require will be billed separately from your kit price. The reason for this is, it’s very hard to determine how much floss one person will use next to the other and how much floss will be required for the whole kit.
The 6 strand skein, 5 yards is $2. each – to ship i.e. to Ontario will be approx $3.
Colour we are using is Stepping Stones
I hope this helps answer any questions you may have 🙂 How’s your stitching coming…
I love the purplie silks you sent. I realy like this one with the plain silk squares. Great idea. It's a pretty busy quilt othewise.
I'm not too sure on the little cirles yet. I'll have to see when I get there with mine. I like the idea of them, but I don't like the idea of attaching them. LOL
Hi Heather, thanks for your feedback on the purplie silk I am trying to incorporate some quiet spaces within the project and I'm liking the solid silks.
Yes, I'm curious to find out what you think about the little circles (and the rest of you too)…I of course will love to see what you try 🙂
